BusinessFlare® GIS — FAQ
What am I looking at?
An interactive map of this place with its full parcel tax roll plus economic, demographic, and infrastructure layers — built so you can answer questions yourself, instantly, without waiting on a GIS department.
How do I color the parcels?
Use the Parcel color switch in the panel: Uniform, Land use, Ownership, Age, Underused, Sales, and Public land. Each recolors every parcel and shows a legend with counts.
How do I find one specific parcel?
Open the Find & measure box (bottom-left) and type a parcel or folio number. The map flies to it and shows the owner, address, and value.
How do I get statistics for an area?
Two ways, both in Find & measure: drop a pin and set a radius, or use Draw boundary to trace any shape. Either returns a full readout for that area — parcels, taxable and market value, acreage, owners, workplace jobs by sector, businesses by type, patents, EPA sites, population, median household income, and the busiest road’s traffic count (whichever layers this map carries).
Are the population and income figures exact?
Those two are estimates — measured by comparing the census tracts against your area, so they’re reliable for a neighborhood and up but rougher for a very small radius. Parcel counts, values, businesses, and jobs are read directly from the source data.
How do I turn layers on and off?
Use the Overlays list in the panel — jobs, businesses, demographics, broadband, flood, wetlands, power grid, water, Opportunity Zones, and more. Click any layer to toggle it; many have their own sub-legends.
How do I export the map?
Use Export PNG or PDF in the top bar. It captures the current view, layers, and styling exactly as shown — ready to drop into a report or share, no GIS request required.
How do I see it in 3D?
Use the 3D / tilt button in the top bar to pitch the map, and Spin to auto-rotate. Some maps also have a dedicated Amendment 3 3D model that shows the tax-base impact building by building.
Does every map have exactly the same layers?
The core layers are the same on every map — parcels, land use, ownership, jobs, businesses, demographics, and the Find & measure tools.
Some projects also include project-specific layers built for a particular engagement — for example a downtown study area, trade-area rings, a site anchor, custom districts, or zoning / future-land-use. If you see a layer here that isn’t listed above, it was added for this project; and a layer you saw on another map may not appear here for the same reason.
Where does the data come from, and how current is it?
County property-appraiser rolls (latest certified — 2025 where published; 2026 not yet released), FDOR tax data, Census/ACS demographics, LODES employment, Google Places businesses, FDOT traffic, and federal infrastructure datasets. Every popup cites its source and vintage.
Do I need an account?
No — no login, no subscription, nothing to install. This is the “no permission” toolkit: the maps an economic developer would otherwise have to request, available on demand.
